There's a special thrill in subverting an object's original purpose, or didn't you ever look at National Geographic tribeswomen that way? For furniture made from things that used to go really fast, hit up Hodge-Podge.

An aggressively American line of custom furnishings soldered together from Harley Davidson spare parts, HP's from a NY-based former garment industry vet who claims, awesomely, to have been "the first to start sample sales" -- a creation he ran from in horror after witnessing his first bloody handbag scrum. In true USA fashion, the good stuff starts with bars and stools (glass-topped drinking counters w/ exhaust pipe legs and foot rails; leather saddle seats with manifold legs), but runs to coffee and end tables (glass-topped with ultra-long curved exhaust pipe supports), standalone chairs (highback double-seaters, single seaters with rear reflectors), and even a love seat w/ tassled armrests and a rear-view mirror on one side, which sadly won't make the fridge closer than it appears. HP also peddles several bar-style stools cobbled together from Harley chassis and topped with Western-style saddles, with gullets and horns for holding onto, and stirrups for getting way too into the whole saddle barstool thing.

Though HP carries a ready-made selection of inventory, they'll custom-make literally anything, as long as the materials consist of Harleys and saddles -- thank God he won't resurrect his garment chops, because no one should be bra'ing up your perennially naked first love.
