The holy genesis of the Reese's Cup should only be invoked to describe a collision as awesome as the one between peanut butter and chocolate (or chocolate and peanut butter, if you want to be a jerk about it). Here to get its Mexican in your cocktail: Los Dados, open today.
Decked out with both high-design metal chandeliers and Catholic-y Jesus nooks, Dados is a collaboration between the Double Seven guys and Sueños' Sue Torres -- whose cheffery's been lauded by everyone from Bon Appetit to the mag you've been "mistakenly" receiving for a decade, Working Woman. Torres specializes in updating classics, yielding dishes like Coconut-infused Halibut, Tamarind-Glazed Skirt Steak, and a Grilled Shrimp and Yucatan Pork tamale, a.k.a. the "No Kosher Nosher". The bar's focused on 100% agave tequilas/rare mescals, plus Mex-tails like vanilla bean and orange blossom margaritas, and the Lagerita -- with lime, simple syrup, tequila, and Dos Equis, it takes the Gordian Knot of "liquor before beer?" and hacks through it with a...plastic straw.
Very soon, Dados'll also open an adjoining taqueria that'll serve tacos, tortas, etc, until late into the night, saving you from crossing 9th Avenue and bearing the brunt of that most not-awesome of collisions: your peanut-shaped noggin with some jerk's chocolate-colored Mercedes.
