Thrillist Los AngelesThe average guy's got no idea who designed the shirt on his back -- ignorance that puts him at the mercy of minor stranglings whenever some young lovely twists his collar to read his tag. Available in stores Monday, sweet gear from a name you can trust: Jimi Hendrix?
A collaboration between Hendrix's sister and Altamont co-founder Andrew Reynolds, the line's emblazoned with vintage backstage art from the man who once famously observed "my otherworldly guitar skills can make up for my unintelligible singing". Each shirt begins as a soft, 100% cotton ring-spun tee, then gets printed with Jimi-created designs like the "Rooster" (a purple haze'd cock) and the "Bride" (a beautiful woman stretched out on the white field of your distended belly). The sole hoodie, adorned with a surrealist scribble called the "Lady of the Night", is fleece-lined, keeping you warm despite your inability to afford an actual lady of the night.
Only 300 of each style are being made, immediate collectors items on par with Hendrix's guitars, his headbands, and the shirt off his back -- which, after a collar-twisting by Grace Slick, was determined to be designed by Hey Joe Boxer.
