Paddy O'Splaine's (now closed)

Cramming March Madness into a tiny bar is a recipe for disaster -- irrationally cocky MSU'rs pressing against milk-sipping BYU'rs leaning on dejected Syracuse fans only there because they've got nowhere else to go. Get your Big Dance on at a suitably big place: Paddy O'Splaine's.

O'Splaine's is a really, really, really large, quasi-Irish sports joint rocking a 40ft, fish-tank-backed bar and classed up with Tiffany lamps and hand-painted bathroom murals, e.g., Nolan Ryan punching the self-respect right out of Robin Ventura's face. The television hookup is as ridiculous as the bar's name: 13 flatscreens and three 120-inch projectors that'll make Billy Packer's liver spots appear even larger than his ego. Food and drink-wise, O'Splaine's is pouring $2 312s, and plating pizza, wings, and pasta; options will soon balloon to a menu that includes Irish, Mexican, and Italian -- a trifecta of huddled masses yearning to be reasonably priced food.

O'Splaine's also plans on instituting specials coinciding with event nights: Wednesdays will have $2 burgers, $5 domestic pitchers, & Wii tourneys, while Thursdays'll be $3 apps, half-priced drinks, & karaoke -- proving that there's room enough in this bar for both sports fans, and frugal, tone-deaf nerds.
