Even after three successful ventures, the next one's still hit-or-miss -- Led Zeppelin IV gave us "Stairway to Heaven", but then again, Police Academy IV was...well, you see where this is going. To witness a veritable tour de fourth, hit Smokin' Betty's.

From the owner of two suburban Sam's Grills and Center City's Devil's Alley, Betty's is a bi-level, 200-seater boasting two bars, three separate dining rooms, and a couched-up corner lounge, all surrounded by exposed brick, concrete, unfinished steel, soaring sky-lit rafters, and dark wide-plank floors -- an industrial-rustic aesthetic clearly inspired by Paul Verhoeven's RoboSheriff. The sprawling, reasonably priced menu includes bar bites like grilled chicken wings (w/ Sam's BBQ sauce or spicy dry rub), St. Louis riblets, and sliders (pulled pork, chicken, and brisket), while entrées run the grill gamut: marinated flank steak, smoked brisket, hickory-smoked St. Louis ribs, even a tur-duck-en burger (bun-tur-duck-en). Sixteen rotating taps pour specialties from nationwide microbreweries, like Ballast Point Yellowtail Pale Ale, Lakefront Riverwest Stein, Sprecher Black Bavarian, Sixpoint Righteous Rye, and Arrogant Bastard Ale, whose website actually claims "It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality". Hello, Righteous Rye!

An extensive cocktail list is still under development, but plans involve a line of roller derby-themed names like Apocalipstick, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and Miss Behavior -- who taught small arms, and totally let Mahoney feel her up in a hot air balloon.
