Ever since the first time you saw the "Nothing but a G Thang" video, you've had one dangerous, scandalously lurid fantasy: hosting a kicking backyard barbecue. Make it happen with a single phone call, with Funk N Chunk.
FNC's a full-service, hip-hop-powered catering service, started at an East Bay college party when somebody asked grillmaster/DJ Jupiter Henry if he "did this for a living"; the business was born when he said "Yes", and handed him a bill. While his crew cooks up everything from bbq'd oysters to garlic-rosemary salmon, anyone with a robust colon will go for gourmet carnivorage like the thickly sauced Bourbon-Coffee Spareribs, Pulled Pork (with the same booze-caffeine treatment), or Bleu Cheese and Mustard Butter Stuffed Niman Ranch Steaks. (Damn.) Tunes-wise, beyond hip-hop, they'll happily blare anything from funk to rock, to bluegrass; they'll also spin mash-ups of those genres ("Oh Brotha, Where Art Thou"?).
If you have no backyard, Jupiter and co. also host FnC Fridays at Danny Coyle's, nights billed as "hyphy and funk from 10-2, cocktail specials and horny yuppies" -- who are clearly there for their own lurid fantasy, of having ta' find a contraceptive.
