Gear: 50% off at Free Gold Watch
In preparation for their move to the Haight, the Western Addition’s silkscreening and streetwear pros are unloading old and new stock, including logo’d up coach jackets, La Polea polos and hoodies (pitting the Lacoste gator vs Le Tigre), and tees like Biggie’s “10 Crack Commandments” conveyed in Matrix-esque code ("Rule number uno, 11011011010001001").
Eat: Bottega
TV chef Michael Chiarello’s new Napa digs are decked out in Old Country chic: the outdoor Terrazzo comes complete with fireplaces and lounge seating, while the twin dining rooms are dominated by old timber communal tables (one with a long copper bar). The refined Italian comes both on small plates (the seared foie gras focaccia panino) and bigguns, e.g., the honey/sage/apple Duroc Pork, and the chickpea passatina-bound Day Boat Scallops, dredged from coastal waters from Maine to New Jersey, but hopefully yours came from Maine.
Go: Highway To Hell
Curiously hosted at a Pac Heights mansion, this semi-Satanic bash features a custom car and hot rod show (w/ the winner getting $666), copious PBR and whiskey, gorgonzola burgers/ribs/pulled pork by metal-loving "Hot Chick BBQ", and a ballroom performance by AC/DSHE, who rock like they actually do have Big Balls.
$10 gets you admission plus three beer tix at HighwayToHellSF.com
Tough Gear: Armadillo Wear
Originally designed for Vespa riders, these UK-made jackets come tech’d out with iPod pockets/headphone loops, breathable waterproofing, storm cuffs, and “d30” impact-absorbing inserts. Models range from the thigh-length Fur Parka; to the simply styled, detachable hooded City Rider; to the flashier, reflective 3M-piped Camovision -- great for blending in with...people who have the same jacket?
Go Again: Tim and Eric Awesome Show (Great Job!)
The Adult Swim comedy duo -- famous for their explorations of weighty subjects like man-cat anthropomorphism, vomit-inducing sports, and friendship -- are coming to town for one sure-to-sell-out January show. Their last SF stop was a multimedia presentation promoting the awesomeness of @papajohns.com email addresses -- if you’re reading this in your Papa John’s email, nice move, and send us some garlic sauce, yo.
