The Mi Concept

When shopping for clothes, there exist two equally daunting prospects: navigating the infinite swatches and styles of bespoke work, or swaddling your sparklingly unique physique in a fascistly prescribed set of M, L, and XL options (XXL, you've got bigger problems). Find a balance, at The Mi Concept.

From an SF fashion vet, Mi fabricates their raw, modern line to order through a simple process: pick your piece(s) from its fluorescent-tube-lit, clinically chic showroom, get quickly measured, and they'll dispatch your deets to Toronto, which is apparently the new Indonesia. The collection starts with two waist-length jackets available in cotton or crinkled black/brown leather; the first's collarless, and features moto-style angular zippers and woven underarms for stretch and comfort, while the second's vaguely military-ish, w/ sturdy shoulder construction and oil rubbed into creases and edges, for the gracefully aged look Joan Rivers briefly considered before freebasing Botox. There's also a classic cotton trench in black or grey, whose stand-up collar's made of undulating fabric segments, and a pair of super-simple, unwashed/undyed jeans, devoid of rivets, and cut "bow-legged", because the Gap scooped Mi on bootcut.

Since Mi's more of a showroom than a store, it's not always open, so call before you go. The owner also plans to open the space up from time to time for art exhibits and other cultural happenings, two equally daunting prospects that'll leave you glad you're too XXL to leave the house.
