Mid-flight brawl erupts over bawling baby

The whole "screaming baby on a plane"  is the most tired cliché in airplane lore, but when a baby actually wails on a packed flight, that little sucker triggers real bile from fellow passengers. In fact, two passengers went out of their way to prove how terrible humans are on Thursday when they fought the mother of a crying infant on an Air China flight from Chonqing to Hong Kong.

Sitting in front of the mother and child, the two women asked the mom to stop her offspring from bawling (as if she hadn’t tried!). When the pouting parade didn't stop, the two women were so pissed that they reclined their seats all the way back to get even. Of course, the mom shouted and lashed out at the women, they hit back, and a full-fledged fight erupted. Unsurprisingly, this did nothing to stop the baby from further screaming.

“I was sitting right next to them when they started telling the woman to shut the baby up”, passenger Xiong Wan said. “She started shouting back at them and before I knew what was happening she leant over the seat and punched one of them… They then started hitting her and all hell broke loose.”

A flight attendant intervened, and the pilot allegedly threatened an emergency landing if they didn’t stop fighting. “Passengers cannot behave like this”, Air China spokesman Daio Weimin said. “Each and everyone must adhere to aviation laws to ensure a safe and comfortable flight for all.”

On arriving in Hong Kong (on time, at least), police met the offending passengers to give them a talking to.

When asked to comment, the baby simply cried.
