Wednesdays, 7:30-11pm (must arrive by 10pm) at The Clubhouse in Griffith Park, Los Feliz
Though clearly an unparalleled test of athletic skill, golf's true value lies in its facilitation of outdoor drinking, wanton quotations of Caddyshack, and viciously smacking balls with no regard for accuracy. For a party that cuts to the chase, hit Twilight At The Club.
Started by art collective GhettoGloss and Jason Biggs (you know, from Jersey Girl?), Twilight's a chilled-out Wed-night hang at a clubhouse overlooking some of Griffith Park's presidential golf courses (The Woodrow Wilson, The Warren G. Harding, and The FDR -- dems the breaks, The Calvin Coolidge). For entertainment, there's an open-all-night driving range, a 70's-soul DJ, and a screening of the Bill Murray/Chevy Chase/Gopher classic, complete with a costume contest for a $50 gift certificate to Ghetto's gallery store (for an authentic "Maggie" look, show up late and totally stressed out about it). The bar's stocking brews (including Czechvar) and a full array of booze, while the backyard bbq grub menu'll typically include the likes of burgers, ribs, and mac 'n' cheese, all solid training table food, if you're training to drive the cart.
Being theme-partiers to the core, Ghetto's summer lineup goes beyond golf, e.g., the Sat-afternoon La Cita party "The Bronx Zoo", featuring bikini-clad figure models wearing ape masks -- make too many wanton statements, and they'll viciously smack your balls. With terrifying accuracy.
