Even the most Xtreme athletes enjoy having a place to kick up their heels at the end of the day, assuming that by day's end their heels haven't been pulverized in some sort of nitrous-powered rollerskating accident. Opening a luxury pad for your post-Xtreme comfort: Kitty Hawk Kites.
An eminently road trip-worthy kiteboarding and hang gliding operation on NC's optimally winded Outer Banks, Hawk's just unveiled their brand new Waves Village Resort: an 18-unit complex of condo-style rentables, pimped out with private hot tubs, huge plasmas, views of your high-flying brethren out on the water, and a sprawling shore-side "guitar shaped pool" (so, wear your G-string?). Right on site, the full-service kiteboarding school offers lessons of varying duration (from 3-6hr intros to the 2-day "Fast Track Camp"), during which you'll master fundamentals like "launch", "landing", "water relaunching", and "body drags", hopefully not how you get friends who didn't master "landing" back to the car. For the fly-curious, the nearby hang-gliding school lets newbies fly solo 15ft above the "east coast's largest sand dune", and/or fly tandem on a 2,000ft, ultralight aircraft-towed glider -- kind of like waterskiing, except now it'll be twice as funny when they untie the rope and ditch you to go "buy another twack".
To round out your long weekend, they've also got a slew of other sky/sea offerings, from biplane tours to wave-runner rentals to kayaking -- a fine, sit-down sport for hobbled Xtremers who don't mind being up the creek without an ankle.
