For Anthony Bourdain, good food came with a story. Flavor had roots, traditions, a narrative. As a writer, a chef, and a television host, he navigated the world, down to its grittiest corners, in pursuit of taste. “For a moment, or a second,” he wrote in his first book, Kitchen Confidential, “the pinched expressions of the cynical, world-weary, throat-cutting, miserable bastards we’ve all had to become disappears when we’re confronted with something as simple as a plate of food.”

Last June, at age 61, Bourdain took his own life in a hotel room in France.

At the time, he was shooting a new segment for his food and travel show, Parts Unknown, with fellow chef Eric Ripert. And while the show's production company, Zero Point Zero, has released a final season of the show airing right now on CNN, the last episode will take place in New York City's Lower East Side. That is to say, the episode he was filming in Alsace, France just prior to his death will not air. 

“The final original episode of Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown will be the Lower East Side, airing on November 11 2018,” a CNN spokesperson explained in a statement. “After Anthony Bourdain’s tragic passing on June 8, it was determined by CNN and the series’ production company that we would honor the work with a final season.”

Throughout the course of this season, Bourdain eats, talks, and ingratiates himself with locals in Kenya, Asturias, Indonesia, and Far West Texas before hitting Manhattan. Still, the absence of that one missing piece is felt. In the un-released Alsace segment, Ripert was intended to shepherd Bourdain to vineyards, restaurants, and food markets along the French-German border. They hadn't made it everywhere, but they'd certainly begun. 

When news broke of Bourdain's death, he and Ripert had just wrapped a scene in which they sat together, over plates of food, across from Chef Jean-Yves Schillinger. Schillinger later told PEOPLE that Bourdain was “just like himself, just like he was on television” that day. 

Unfortunately, that footage will remain private. We can all listen to Bourdain wax poetic about the salty, the acrid, and the sour one final time on the streets of New York on Sunday, November 11 (9pm ET on CNN). This will be our final tour de force -- our last opportunity to see something new, produced at the hands of Bourdain. 

“Who gets to tell the stories? This is a question asked often,” he muses in the final episode to include his narration. “The answer in this case, for better or for worse, is I do -- at least this time. I do my best. I look. I listen. But in the end, I know it’s my story, not Kamau’s, not Kenya’s, or Kenyans’. Those stories are yet to be heard.”

Forget baseball or football: Binge-watching TV is our true national pastime. Today’s technology means you have access to more hours of television than you could ever (healthily) watch, but not all bingeable TV shows are equal. You want a viewing experience that will leave you entertained, satisfied, yet still with remaining hours to do something else that weekend -- not the regret of spending your entire 48 hours off suffering through that sluggish drama your friend swears gets really good around season 3. Consider these your TV streaming one-hit wonders: From limited series, to very long documentaries, to episodic TV where each season can be enjoyed on its own, this is all the best stuff to watch in one shot.

It's understandable if you're annoyed that the Holiday Season starts earlier and earlier every year -- with Christmas music playing in stores starting right around New Year's Day. That being said, we really can't encourage stores to start their Black Friday deals early enough. In fact, they should probably just run them year-round.

Amazon's Early Black Friday Deals, for instance, start November 1, aka today. That's a full three weeks before the actual Black Friday -- at which point they'll bring out the big guns, so definitely check back then. But definitely check out these early deals. They just might save you from getting elbowed in the face in a line at a department store. Note that a lot of them are one-timers and will be replaced by other bargains, so you should act fast if you see something you want.
