Hot New Streaming App Quibi Is Offering 90-Day Free Trials Right Now, So Hurry

In the past 10 years, we've gone from watching cable and occasionally ordering DVDs from a service called "Net-Flix?" to streaming our shows and movies on a dozen different platforms all located on the same smart TV. It's the golden age of "streaming," and it's clear from the recent introduction of Apple TV+ and Disney+ that the streaming war isn't over. But maybe it's time for a quick intermission? 

Nah, says the soon-to-be-released streaming service Quibi, and I'll give you 90 days free if you pre-order the service.

First of all, for those who don't know what Quibi even is, it's a streaming platform for short-form entertainment, designed exclusively for mobile use. The platform will give you access to series and films told in short chapters. It's set to launch on April 6 with 50 shows and movies.

I know what you're thinking... That you already have Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Disney+, Disney-, Disney#, and Disney*, so why would you need another service? Here's the thing... There's a crap-ton of money going into Quibi, and it's already attracting big names in Hollywood (Jason Blum, Chrissy Teigen, Steven Soderbergh, etc.). Plus it's only $4.99 a month with ads, and $7.99 without.

The Story Behind Doja Cat's 'Say So' Dance Is an Internet Virality Ouroboros

Following an internet trend's virality is almost as complex and random as the forces that drive something to go viral in the first place. With the half-life of memes getting shorter and shorter by the month as social platforms like Twitter and TikTok provide an endlessly refreshing stream of new stuff to read, watch, and interact with, it's rare when one really catches on. The longevity of Rage Comics and LongCat is a product of a much slower, much older era; nowadays, as soon as presidential candidates start doing the "Renegade," the majority of the internet's trendiest teens (all of them) have already moved on to something else. Virality is also the least labor-intensive way of becoming famous, which is exactly how the singer and rapper Doja Cat began building her budding empire, months before the meteoric rise of Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" was even a thing. 

Doja Cat recently made headlines for her "Say So" music video, which features a dance during the chorus that went viral on TikTok at the end of last year, but her viral fame started long before that. In August of 2018 -- she had released a debut EP, Purrr!, in 2013, and her first album, Amala, in early 2018, and had already signed with RCA Records -- Doja Cat posted a video she made in about half a day for her song "Mooo!", which is about, obviously, being a cow and doing cow things. It's the weirdest song she's ever done, but it was a hit, the bizarre combination of bovine lyricism ("Bitch, I'm a cow / I'm not a cat / I don't say 'meow'") and lo-fi green-screened video effects layered behind Doja Cat herself dancing languidly in a black and white spotted cow costume making its instant meme-ification inevitable.

Woman's Unique 100th Birthday Wish Lands Her in Jail

Has it ever occurred to you that older women bopping around assisted living centers have bigger plans than spending the rest of their days in wise and gentle innocence? If not, the arrest of 100-year-old Ruth Bryant will certainly change your perception of the bunch. 

Bryant was taken into custody at the Cambridge Hills Assisted Living Center in North Carolina on Thursday, according to local news outlet WRAL. She was celebrating her centennial when a Person County deputy entered the establishment and asked "Are you miss Bryant?" 

"It all depends on what you want!" Bryant replied with spunk. She was prepared for this arrest, an arrest she herself had asked for. It was on her bucket list. 

"Here's what I want. I want you!" the officer said. It was a hilarious joke, but Bryant's family and friends were mostly shocked to see her get handcuffed to a walker and escorted to a police car. Bryant's daughter Marian Oakley told WRAL she "didn't know they'd be going this far" with the gag, but followed along as her mother was placed in jail for approximately three minutes and was given an orange prison suit for the road. 

"I'm in the jail-house now! I finally got here!" Bryant said, before returning to the assisted living home, where it was certain that no other resident who witnessed the spectacle would ever mess with her again.
