While a risk, brother-brother collaborations can yield wildly successful results: the Emmanuel brothers are dominating Hollywood and DC city and Oasis became even bigger than the Beatles wrote that song "Wonderwall". Rocking yet another successful bro-collab, Blvd., now open. Growing from skate shop to fashion boutique, this second offering from a freelance photographer/ AIB grad and his brother (their other store is in Newport) is a sleek first floor Newbury brownstone selling an extensive selection of street/casual wear (denim, tees, kicks, hats, and skate decks) from over 30 designers/brands in a space befitted with teal walls, shiny hardwood, two old fireplaces, vintage radios, and an old school 1957 telephone booth in the fitting room, in case you really need to call Adlai Stevenson. Current offerings include a heavy dose of Vans shirts plus cotton tees from Imaginary Foundation, Caida, and Alternative Apparel adorned with everything from naked chicks to cosmic escalators; button downs from Matix and Altamont; and a range of other gear like Coal/RVCA hats, red Retro Super Future suncheaters, Levis/Wesc jeans, and that old '80s favorite, the Member's Only jacket w/ its famous slogan, "When You Put It On, Something Happens", like you getting called creepy. In addition to an exclusive deal with Gravis Skate shoes, they've also got Vans Chukka Lows, the Ipath Cat w/ beige or brown moccasin-stitched desert boot upper, and the black or white canvas Levi's Buck Hi, which is the advice given to mechanical bulls in Tijuana, just to get them through the night. To kick things off right, Blvd. is throwing an opening party Saturday night at 9, raffling off store product, and doling out free grub and booze from Narragansett and TY KU Sake, wise choices as they want to avoid a Champagne Supernova.
