An app to skirt the happy hour ban

Getting around a law has never been a problem in New England, especially once Ty hurt his foot in the seventh game of the '04 season, and ended up in NY anyway. Now helping you tackle the task of getting around the Hub's blue laws, DrinkOwl.

From a couple of dudes who "don't like to pay a lot for booze, and are pretty sure most people feel the same way" (talk about going out on a limb!), DO's a recently unveiled, just-arrived-in-the-Hub website/free iPhone app that, on a daily basis, shows you which watering holes about town are pouring "the cheapest drinks", also a reality show in which Rip Torn & Courtney Love just go to The Hong Kong every night. Here's how it works: using GPS to plot your location, a Gmap full of relevant drinkeries pops up indicating which bars in your area are slinging specials (or if you're on the Web, just leisurely peruse a map of the city); from there you can see how much drinks cost, as well as filter by day of the week and/or type of fermented grain beverage that's being imbibed on the cheap, including beer, wine, liquor, or mix, which, aside from the booze, presumably offers some stuff by Jamiroquai and that Montell Jordan track. While the number of participating bars continues to grow, early stage availability includes choice deals like buck fifty-five pints at Beacon Hill Pub and $3 PBR Pounders at McGreevy's, $3 sherbet shots at Clarke's, and the Revolution Rock Bar's $10 seasonal pitchers, which still seems like a pretty crummy deal on Buchholz.

Things are also about to get a whole lot crazier when DO rolls out slick features like an individual "favorites" page (consider yourself added, All Asia!), as well as social network integration that'll let you share your love publicly, so everyone can know where you like to Ty one on.
