If you've learned anything about bus rides through the years, it's that they're unpleasant, dangerous, and filled with Ms. Frizzle's factual tidbits about the solar system and American flags. For a bus ride that won't shrink you and force you to care for the class lizard, hit Golden Gate Brewery Tours, now accepting reservations.
Started by two just-graduated dudes who founded the "Home Brewing Club" at Claremont McKenna, Brew Tours charters legal-to-drink-on beer buses that take up to 22 pint lovers to three North Bay breweries, where they hook up exclusive tours, close to two dozen 3oz tastings, and a gourmet catered lunch with eats like a 9oz pesto-smothered double chicken breast, which's exactly one breast away from a Total Recall. Beer-seekers board the bus at the Ferry Building on a Saturday morning, then head over the bridge for brewmaster-guided walk-throughs at Lagunitas, Moylan's, and Marin Brewing Company, which include access to private tasting rooms equipped with saddled beer keg bar stools and foosball tables -- if they won't let you play, just tell 'em to sit and spin...because that'll disqualify them, giving you access to the table! On the bus, they'll do beer trivia and dole out free branded glassware from the breweries, gratis pints of Lagunitas, and other suds-themed swag, plus pass out a "Beer Cheat Sheet" you can use
as a coaster to keep track of what you've tasted, which really would've helped Wilt the Stilt back in the day.
Russian River Brew Co. is next up on their list of brewery partnerships, plus there's an East Bay tour in the works that would include Drake's, Pyramid, and hopefully Bison, though not M. Bison, as even a Magic School Bus has little chance against a dude engulfed in blue flame, hurtling himself at it.
