1. The Blacksmith & The Toffeemaker 292-294 St. John Street, London, EC1V 4PA (Islington)

Opened in Islington by a pair of actual Yorkshire-men, TB&TT achieves minimalist-cozy by pairing '70s armchairs with handsome tiling, but hangs blacksmith tools near the ceiling as a fashionable reminder that lives were once more "minimalist-sooty". Tuck that thought away in the seldom-visited part of your brain where you store "Perhaps I should spend my days atoning for our nation's colonial sins", then suckle British gins, Scottish whiskys, and cask taps such as the ruby red Theakston XB and the smooth & creamy Caledonian 80 Shilling, whilst devouring dishes like a full-sized lamb hotpot, Sri Lankan chicken curry, or the deli counter's rabbit pie & potted duck.
