Reinventing yourself after a hiatus can be tough, like when Vanilla Ice tried to come back years later, equipped with weirdly dark tunes that were a bit Hard to Swallow...except "The Horny Song", that was pretty uplifting. Eschewing brand-new inventions for the rebirth of an old favorite: The Rathskeller.
After temporarily shutting its doors following a 35+ yr run as UM's only booze-friendly joint, the beloved local just opened its new digs in the accessible-to-all student union, where they've gone from dart-boarded dive bar to non-dart-boarded, just-classier-enough dive restaurant with a robust menu of bar food and a full wait staff, who should really stop eating that robust menu of bar food. Inside, you'll find all manner of flatscreens, a wraparound bar, and plenty of cushy orange seating, while outside there’s a patio -- with a view of the swim/diving team's pool, and plenty of their signature green awning-covered, orange-cushioned picnic table pods -- on which they eventually hope to have outdoor events, which certainly couldn't work out any worse than The Event nobody watched indoors on their TVs. Get after a lineup of burgers including the Jalapeno Cheddar, and another crusted with black pepper and loaded with crumbled bleu cheese, plus Nia's Buffalo wings smothered in either hot, BBQ, or honey garlic sauce, cheesesteaks, and a bun stacked with provolone and chicken fingers, also what you give to people when you flick them off behind really strong tints.
Booze-wise, they're upping things beyond keg-party fare with taps ranging from Amber Bock to Shock Top, plus bottles like Blue Moon, Dos Equis, Red Stripe, Newcastle, and that frosty Smirnoff stuff, so it's lucky the days have passed when you have to worry about getting iced, iced, baby.
