[ed note: lede should introduce brewery, what it looks like, etc. Maybe clever play off idea of the term rough draft? or a band named "Ruff Drafft"?] Overturning the widespread belief that rough drafts are only for nerds and the Chargers [ed: could also substitute Padres here], RDBC is a new 15-barrel brewhouse from a UCSD grad featuring 12 taps pouring their initial four-brew lineup behind a 40ft zig-zagging concrete bar, as well as high-top wood tables, miscellaneous brewing equipment, and several couches, but not Tim Couches, as those only come in Browns [ed: don't force the sports jokes].
Though the brewer is aggressively tight-lipped [ed: unusually reticent? weirdly secretive?] about details, initial suds options include [ed: quick descriptions, ABV, IBUs, small jokes, no need to compensate!]:
Eraser: Most likely named for Arnold's defining role as an alligator fighting WITSEC agent [ed: ha! that's a James Caan tour de force], this “bold” IPA weighs in at 6.8% ABV with a hefty 80 IBUs.
What the Ale?: This pale ale is the lightest in ABV (5.9%) but still rocks 48 IBUs and a flavor described as “the gift that keeps on giving”, though most people would argue that's the beloved children's book The Giving Tree [ed: Hmmm, maybe "inexplicably beloved"? Book is basically about vicious one-sided relationship between a selfless tree, and a greedy little jerk].
Amber: The “well-balanced”, two-row-malt-packed, yet-to-be-officially-named brew is... wait for it... amber [ed: too sarcastic?], and light on the palate with 18 IBUs, yet brings boys to the yard with its solid 7.5% ABV.
Belgian Blond: A 6.2-percenter with crazy, 1998 Vince Carter [ed: is that when he won the Slam Dunk contest? Also: more sports, really?], pilsner hops, BB will daintily caress your palate with 17 IBUs and an "attractively light" look.
Future plans call for barrel-aging and blended styles, and in the nearer future they'll roll out 9%-ers “Emboozlement” Triple and the 90 IBU, Double IPA “Frontal Labottleme” [ed: maybe kick with something about a lobotomy turning you into a rough draft of your former self? So drinking these will do that? Either way: no sports!].
