When opportunity knocks, you can either answer the door, or just stare at it through the peephole thinking about how funny stuff looks through those things. For a spot from a dude who did the former, hit Dirty Dogs.
From a local 20-year deli biz vet who was soaking up the Florida sun when an opportunity came along he couldn't resist, DDBM's an eat-in/take-out grill in the "Z" doing up dogs, burgers, and "sausages for the soul" in a bright, 17-seat former Boar's Nest Deli whose salmon colored walls are dotted w/ framed b&w family pictures and an impressive assortment of (faux) sausages, just like Jose Mac's
on weekends all the time. For choices in dog/sausage, there's the cheddar drenched Messy Dog w/ 'kraut, chili, and Boston baked beans; The King (grilled sausage/pepperoni with peppers and onion rings); and the relish, mustard, and cole slaw Cape Cod Dog, who tells everyone it's from Hyannis, when it actually just summered in Chatham. Other deliciousness includes the Monster, a three-patty/six-slices-of-American burger piled high w/ bacon, caramelized onions, and chili; Give Me a Break (grilled capicola, Genoa salami, sliced pepperoni, and mortadalla on thick Italian bread); and the thousand island drizzled/grilled rye Mary Anne with "all white" turkey breast -- fitting, as most of the BC kids in there are Irish Catholic.
DDBM also peddles private label sodas (Orange Cream, Root Beer, Raspberry Lime Ricky) to go with wraps like the chipotle sauce'd turkey & bacon Picker, and the roasted red pepper, Swiss, & Russian covered Dirty Wrap, which is what you may be forced to cover yourself with when opportunity knocks, and you realize you're just sitting there, reading Redbook naked.
