American food is always a strong call, but a delicious crapload of American food? Now that's American! Go big or scurry up to Canada with Max and Dylans Kitchen and Bar.
In the freshly renovated, bi-level exposed brick and dark wood digs that used to house West St Grill, M&D's slings the best comfort-grub from all over this great land -- like a United Nations of food, but screw all those other Nations. The entree lineup's unimpeachable (Grilled Pork Chops w/ cranberry chutney, Kobe Meatloaf, Blackened Prime Rib) but the real deal's the mini-meals: five types of slider (Kobe + Gouda + balsamic onions, Filet Mignon + Great Hill blue cheese, Ranch Chicken + bacon + cheddar, etc), five types of mac & cheese (prosciutto, rock shrimp...hot dog!) and other solid apps like a Philly Cheesesteak Spring Roll -- no matter what we look like, our guts are red, white, blue, and whiz. Other country-wide standouts include a Maine Lobster Roll, New Orleans BBQ Shrimp, and Waffle Fries slathered with pickled jalapenos and melted cheddar, the critical ingredient for fusing the entire plate into Waffle Fry Pangea.
Drinkwise, M&D's extensive martini list purposefully disses blended BS, instead taking a more reverent approach to what's been called the quintessential American cocktail -- you can't fool around when it comes to our proud tradition of getting totally tore up.
