The Regal Beagle

Remember as a kid how you wished you could just climb into the TV and join your favorite characters in their everyday adventures: like hanging out with David Hasselhoff in his talking car, or on the beach, or on the floor, wrestling a cheeseburger. Well he's busy, but luckily the bar from Three's Company ain't: welcome to the Regal Beagle, opening tomorrow. Spawned by the Three's Company fans behind Church, RB aims to give off the same upscale "neighborhood joint" vibe the Beagle gave Jack, Chrissy, and Janet, slinging creative American comfort food and "inspired" cocktails in both a 60 seat main dining room with dark red paisley walls and red leather mahogany bench seating, and a back lounge with gray painted brick walls, a ribbon stripe mahogany bar, and dark wood high tops, which you can either sit at, or uncomfortably wear in your pickup game. Because it's first and foremost a watering hole, there's a solid selection of 19 beers (BBC Steel Rail, Avery White Rascal, Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout), 17 wines ("Curious Beagle" Cab, Raw Power Shiraz), and cocktails named/inspired by the show's characters like The Dizzy Blonde (La Favorite Rhum Agricole Blanc mixed w/ lime juice & simple syrup); The Old Landlord (whiskey, bitters & muddled fruit); and a blend of rye, bitters, and sweet vermouth topped w/ cherries called The Ladies Man -- which should probably include Jack. Or at least Larry Dallas. Foodwise, RB grills up hearty entrees like a salsa verde-topped sirloin grilled w/ asparagus and a potato cake; pomegranate syrup-smothered lamb chops w/ mint, almond, and goat cheese; and dried-cherry glazed, seared scallops w/ butternut squash risotto and a crust of pistachio brittle, which the cops said cracked even easier than its accomplice peanut, and with much less roasting. If you're just craving bar bites/small plates before a film (they'll pick up Coolidge Theater tix for customers), RB's got drawn butter-dipped lobster roll sliders w/ sweet potato fries; caramel vinegar-covered slow braised pork belly w/ apple salad; and pulled chicken tacos topped w/ pico de gallo and an avocado mousse -- which the Hof used to use to style his hair, before he started eating it.
