For evidence that expansion really is the key to dominance, look at Alexander the Great, just maybe not right now, because he's still taking a nap with Jared Leto. Expanding its Back Bay dominance, Scoozi, now open.
Building on the nine year success of their Newbury spot, this second-coming trattoria continues the "all-in-one" café/bar/resto theme in a 90-seat space that incorporates a 10-seat bar, artsy framed photography, an expansive outdoor patio, and a grey carpeted lounge w/ wooden coffee tables, leather chairs, and plush wrap-around benches that make it look like a living room, but not The Living Room, since those dudes are wicked litigious. For casual eats, there's an albacore puttanesca panini w/ tomatoes and olives; a chicken sausage and chipotle sweet pepper confit pizza topped w/ plum tomato sauce and a three cheese blend; and Gnocchi Funghi with a creamy 'shroom sauce that'll feel both delicious and blue. Heartier dinner fare includes grilled bourbon marinated sirloin tips w/ mesclun greens and jasmine rice; a balsamic'd roasted game hen w/ onions, spinach, and garlic mash; and a lemon/butter-drizzled Chilean seabass picatta with shallots and capers, which'll have to do for now since the Great Muppet ones are out of season.
If you don't like to eat much pre-Tequilla Rain, you can snag apps like marinara-covered baked goat cheese on garlic toast, and garlic jumbo shrimp in a white wine sauce, which pair nicely with vinos like The Show Malbec, Red Belly Black Shiraz, and Menage a Trois, which would be a real possibility for Alexander, if Leto would just try to like Rosario Dawson!
