People go to Malden for two reasons: to go to Dockside, and to ride the Orange line to the end, just to discover they can't get into Dockside. Well screw Dockside, because you just got a third reason: Two Ninety Main Restaurant & Lounge. Located in the old Veez Grille and Tap, 290MRL is a swank new resto plus martini lounge serving a meat/seafood-heavy menu of American contempo favorites (with a little Italian thrown in), plus specialty cocktails in an expansive warm brown multi-room space replete w/ beige/leather high-back banquettes, a giant U-shape wooden bar, shimmery curtains, and an elevated seating area adorned w/ plush red sofas and love seats, which will feel uncomfortable if you have mind-blowing sex then sit in them way too early. Meatwise, there's a double-wide pork chop in an apple segment dressing w/ sides of risotto and apple sauce; a Marsala wine-doused Chicken Bracciolatini stuffed w/ spinach, portabella mushrooms, and fresh melted mozzarella; and a port wine and shallot reduction-covered spicy blackened NY sirloin that's prepared "Pittsburgh Style", but you probably didn't want to know that. There're also pizzas/pastas, like a 12-inch garlic, sausage, and wild mushroom pie; baked haddock and shrimp over a pink scampi/scallion sauce; and a crumb and butter topped mac & cheese made w/ homemade pasta and fresh chunky lobster that used to just be big boned, before it got that attitude. If you'd just prefer to kick it in the lounge with some apps, there's sesame-encrusted tuna sashimi served w/ wasabi mayo and pickled ginger; pan-seared lump crabmeat cakes in tartar; and colossal mushrooms packed w/ a veggie broth stuffing, but not nearly as packed as Dockside. Damn you, Malden Trivia Night!
