Grim's

Factories are often lamented for their negative environmental impact and poor working conditions, although really, you should probably just chill out and watch the chocolate factory conveyor belt episode of I Love Lucy, Upton Sinclair. Giving you all the best parts of factory life without losing your best parts, Grim's. Opened by the crew behind Po Dogs/Auto Battery, this casually steampunkish two-level drinkery's serving up modern twist's on the kind of 'tails/nosh enjoyed by factory workers, all in a high-ceiling main room built around a massive wooden girder, and boasting an absurd number of reclaimed pieces (wall panels from a barn in Duval, cafeteria-style tables outta Pittsburgh, bolsters from the old King Street Station, etc.), plus a narrow, black-walled upstairs lounge decorated with 88 individually-mounted insects -- hence its name, the Butterfly Lounge, though, in Effect, letting even one of them flap its wings wouldn't be (Amy) Smart. Daytime grub is built around classic worker-inspired sandos like the spicy coconut peanut butter spread/ cucumber/ mint/ orange marmalade Bangkok PB; a French Dip w/ rare roast beef, havarti, homemade horseradish aioli & au jus; and a tomato/ basil/ prosciutto/ asiago/cheddar/herbed leek Grilled Cheese 3 Way, which everyone should try at least once, though usually in college. Night time grub includes small plates (hot baked bread w/ a selection of infused butters, beef tartare) plus bigger stuff like macrina bread crostinis with bacon, arugula, & tomato, or artichoke & goat cheese, but not G.O.A.T. cheese, as it was Method Man who played that role, not LL Cool J. Behind the bar (fronted with still more reclaimed touches like vintage mail boxes from a UW dorm) there'll be classic 'tails that're meant to match the lighter evening fare, and'll feature infused liquors and "plenty of whiskey", also something factories used to have a ton of, before Sinclair got all lame and regulationy.
