COMUNE Fall '10

Things that start in dorm rooms often grow unmanageable -- like drug habits, and your unplanned son Herbert, though having him did help you manage that drug habit. Grab gear from a man who knows: COMUNE

After launching Ambiguous out of his dorm room in '96 and watching it grow into a beast beyond his creative control, COMUNE's SoCal-native founder sold his share and started this fashion collaborative based on a "lifestyle of carefree idealism", depressing Plato, who totally cared. The vast collection includes outerwear from the single buttoned, shawl collared "Owen" -- styled after sweaters worn by WWII mechanics, who were way more stylish than modern mechanics -- to the "Dean" denim motorcycle jacket, whose removable appendages allow you to play Rebel Without a Sleeve. Button-ups show similar range, from the "Howard", a short-collared job that'd be at home on Dr. No's evil little island, to the charcoal or light-olive "Dion", which pairs a club-friendly cut with a removable black flannel hood, so you can hide your shame when women refuse your offer to Ursula Undress them.

From COMUNE's collab wing Drop City, a sextet of tees features designs like a CA silhouette inlaid with a slightly tilted Petrine cross, and, inspired by a collaborator's childhood in a Christianity-based psychic cult, a comic-book-looking couple asking "Why Are We Here?". Shut up, Herbert! It's certainly not to keep me from this one last fix!
