BMW's 30th Anniversary M5 Is The Most Powerful Car They've Ever Made

The M5 not only created its own niche in the marketplace when it debuted, it has spent the past three decades beating just about every car that's tried to challenge it. Now, as part of the car's 30th birthday celebration, BMW's upping the ante with the very limited "30 Jahre M5" (or 30 Years M5), and it's the most powerful car BMW has ever produced.

The car uses a normal M5 with the optional competition package as a starting point. That means bigger brakes and firmer suspension, but this car is meant to be special, so it's even more powerful. 600 hp is a figure never before achieved by a road-going BMW engine as it left the factory. 60 mph takes just 3.7 seconds. To put that into perspective, this four door sedan is almost exactly as quick off the line as a Ferrari F40.

To help the car stand out visually, it's painted in Frozen Dark Silver, and it's also labeled... pretty much everywhere.

It says "30 Jahre M5" on the kidney grills up front, on the dash, on the door frame, and on the seats, just in case that 600 hp engine isn't a sound reminder of what this car is.

And speaking of "sound" reminders, it even says it on the exhaust tips, because screw anyone behind you, of course it does!

As for the non-labeled bits: pretty much the only parts of the interior not wrapped in leather are covered in Alcantara, as is the entire headliner.

If you want one, you've gotta do two things: one, pony up the $130,000 it's gonna cost you, and two, follow BMW's Instagram account. You've got to be one of the first 29 people to call a special phone number to order it, and as part of their celebration of 30 years and five generations of M5s, they're revealing that number on Instagram over the course of five days starting May 17th, as they discuss M5 history.

Aaron Miller is the Rides editor for Supercompressor. The fact that this car can keep up with an F40 in a drag race has him equally giddy and sad.
