This is the Fastest Police Car in the UK
Forget the Huracan the Italian police are running around in. The guys at Ariel Atom just gave their local police force the fastest thing they make: a fresh-off-the-assembly-line Atom 3.5.
It has 350 hp and can hit 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds—a number so staggeringly low that cars like the McLaren P1 would need a strong tailwind to match. Of course, it's got the usual full array of lights, which somehow look particularly menacing coming out of the vents at the car's nose.
Sadly, they're not planning on driving it out on patrols. They've got it simply as a means of promoting motorcycle safety. The skinless exoskeleton of a car is as close as you're going to get to driving a bike with four wheels, but still, nothing illustrates how vulnerable motorcyclists are than having someone sit in a metal structure designed to protect them.
Aaron Miller is the Rides editor for Supercompressor. He's yet to see an Atom driving down the road, despite living in an area that rarely gets rain.
