The Real Life Star Wars Land Speeder Is Coming In 3 Years

If the idea of having your very own personal hoverbike sounds appealing to you, the Aerofex Aero-X hovercraft is pretty much your dream come true. If it's not, well, we have plenty of other things you can look at. Basically, think of this as your own personal hovering motorcycle, and it's not vaporware.

It might look like someone took a futuristic bicycle and laid it on its side, but the Aero-X is really a sophisticated piece of machinery. It can get up to ten feet off the ground, and cruises along at 45 mph. The power comes via a rotary engine not entirely dissimilar to that of a Mazda RX-7.

To use it, you climb on and fly it just like you would ride a motorcycle or a jet ski, i.e. leaning into turns and accelerating and braking at reasonable rates. The blades are shrouded to protect them (and you, and bystanders) from harm, but if that's still not enough safety, it can be ordered with a full vehicle airbag that, while definitely important for safety, is probably very entertaining to watch in action.

You can see them testing it out in the video above. It's still a little ways away from production, but they're finally ready to take pre-orders.

Aaron Miller is the Rides editor for Supercompressor. He's already picturing what the X-Games will look like once this comes out. It's pretty awesome.
