Woah: There's a Huge Aston Martin Auction This Weekend

As Bonham's Aston Martin Works Sale is proving this weekend, not all auctions are created equal. If you like Aston Martins, even in the slightest, the Aston Martin Works Service center in Newport Pagnell, England is the place to be, with literally dozens of the best Astons to ever roll out of the factory, all up for auction. They range from one-off Italian-bodied restorations, to race cars and even non-produced prototypes. We took a look and picked out five of the very best on offer.

1987 V8 Vantage Zagato Coupe
A lot of people don't think about it very often, but some of the most beautiful and most famous Aston Martins ever produced have been penned by the famous Italian design house Zagato. The design may have been a decade ahead of its time, but 4.8 seconds to 60 mph and a top speed of 186 mph means it packs a legitimate punch even by today's standards. [More pics...]

Roger Moore's 1970 DBS
In between Roger Moore's stints as The Saint and James Bond, he was in The Persuaders!, which starred himself, Tony Curtis, and this car. Basically, they needed a great car that fit a pair of crime fighting playboys, so they just asked Aston if they could use one for the show. They also grabbed a Ferrari Dino for Curtis. Must be nice. Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato Recreation
Some automotive recreations are more or less a tribute to an icon, with a body that's similar, but with different underpinnings. Not this one. This car started out as a legit DB4, and was sent off to one of the best Aston Martin restorers in the world, where it was stripped and rebuilt to DB4 GT spec, with a few improvements for handling. Then they built an exact copy of the legendary Zagato body. There are roughly one zillion photos worth checking out on this one. [More pics...]

1970 Aston Martin DBS V8 Race Car
Nicknamed "The Muncher," the Aston Martin RHAM/1 was built for the sole purpose of competing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and in 1977, it placed third in its class. Then, for reasons best left unknown, it set the Guinness Record for highest speed while towing a caravan. An enthusiast of considerable means heard all of this, and had an exact duplicate of the car built. Over the years it's evolved into a much more powerful play thing, and now boasts 570 hp, and some of the best racing equipment you can buy. You really should check out that engine. [More pics...]

1963 DB4 'Series V' Vantage
There are some Aston Martins that are so perfect that you'd be afraid to drive it around on the street. The best ones are those that have seen the real world, and this one has. It's had just a handful of owners over the years, but they've all used it. It's been meticulously looked after, and restored and repainted in the 1980s, so it's still in pretty good condition. This is the one you'd want to drive across the country in. [More pics...]

1970 DB6 Mk2 Volante
When Aston Martin updated the DB6 with slight tweaks to both the body and engine, they made just 38 convertibles. This is one of them, bought new in 1970 and then owned by the same guy until now. It's in such perfect condition that it was just heavily photographed for a book on the DB4, 5 and 6 cars that turned into cultural icons when driven by people like Sean Connery. [More pics...]

Aaron Miller is the Rides editor for Supercompressor. One of his first non-kids books has a picture of the V8 Vantage Zagato, and it's been emblazoned in his brain ever since.
