Now open, Jose Garces's latest local venture promises "Neats & Eats", accomplished via grub, like duck fat French fries w/ Sly Fox cheddar sauce, butter-poached lobster roll w/ applewood smoked bacon, and burgers, including the behemoth Whiskey King: a 10oz patty topped w/ maple bourbon-glazed cipollini, bacon & foie gras. Even the King takes a back seat to booze, though, from the staggering list of 58 bourbons, 30+ Scotches, assorted ryes, and a smattering of Canadian & Irish whiskies, to cocktails divided between "Prohibition", including the bourbon/citrus/mezcal rinse Commodore, and "Repeal", like the Reposado/honey bourbon/stone pine liqueur Horse With No Name, which'll quickly have you forgetting yours.
Village Whiskey is an American gastropub vision of James Beard Award-winning Chef Jose Garces. Standing proudly on a bustling corner of Rittenhouse, this old-school pub with a masculine air does two things best: Burgers and Whiskey. Together. There are a few bar snacks and entrees on the menu alongside a full raw bar, but what the people really want from this place is the simple yet entirely indulgent All-American Burger with (of course) whiskey-cured bacon to match their 200+ bottle selection of whiskeys and prohibition-era cocktails.
