Flea markets make for awesome consumer adventures because you never know what you'll find next; unfortunately, no matter what you find, you now have fleas. For a sweetly random online trove, check Burlesque Design.
From a Twin Cities design collective who've worked with everyone from Arcade Fire to Upper Playground, BD presents a motley assortment of posters, gear, in-house created CDs, and other surprising finds you'll wish filled every toothless woman's bargain bin. Hand-screened prints range from a gaggle of pinup-style lizard-girls to a super-bad poster for the never-produced blaxploitation flick "Brotherman"; hit the virtual t-shirt rack for everything from a raging, mod-pink, Velvet Underground-inspired King Kong, to "PISS" (R. Kelly in Paul Stanley's eye makeup), to the surprisingly classy "Four Boobs Are Better Than Two" ("Just proven to be true! Celebrate science! Celebrate summer! Celebrate boobies!"). Other odds and ends include a 20-sticker "Hater Pack" (e.g., "This Restaurant &/or Bar Sucks"), the hour-long "Things Kings Do" oldies mix CD (a "dance party detonator" with Motown, sock hop, Brit Invasion, & more), "Mustache Bandanas", and a Dr. Dre button pack (the best way to not forget about Dre? Flair).
For serious who-knows-what, order the $10 "Mystery Grab Bag": a mishmash of stickers, CDs, mags, flyers, and other stuff that, were it not for this "magical and amazing" marketing gimmick would be as difficult to get rid of as...bedbugs.
