One of life's oldest axioms is "Those who can, do, and those who can't, throw money at those who can to stave off pangs of uselessness" -- as true for the Medicis of Florence as it was for the Lou Pearlman of Backstreet. Become a patron of the t-shirt, with Cameesa
Founded by two Chi guys who met working at UPS, Cam's a "crowdfunding fashion" company that assembles a roster of t-shirt artists, then produces only those designs that users are willing to help back financially. The just-updated process: peruse the 75+ designs-in-waiting, then pledge a mere $20 and pick your favorites; the first that hits the tipping point (25 units totaling $500) gets printed by Cam, the artist'll pocket $250 (plus $2 on every tee sold after 125), and you'll get the tee for "free", plus 3cents on every purchase (Vegas here you come...in 3009). The latest winners include a tentacled cloud-monster clutching bombs, rockets, knives, and airplanes as it rains on a morose boy; and the groovy, car-upturning carnage of "Electric Terror", rockingly reminiscent of Def Leppard's Hysteria album art.
Any already-cleared design can be purchased the semi-old-fashioned way at Cameesa's web store. Cameesa's also currently taking submissions for the "Coolest Chicago Tee Ever"; to participate, just send in a design, or a suggestion for what you think should be represented -- or if you're running dry, just pay some dude to think of something for you.
