Being a sidekick can be tough, unless you're with Chuck Norris, in which case you just kick dudes in the side. Giving a sidekick his due, J. Wellington's.
Named for Popeye's financially challenged burger-loving sidekick J. Wellington Wimpy, JW's a homey burger joint with the iconic beef fiend painted on the exposed brick walls overlooking chocolate-colored banquettes, because the chocolate-covered banquettes got all melty. Signature burgers include the Wellington (cheddar, applewood bacon, "J. Wellington" sauce, fried onions), the 'shroom/Swiss/chipotle ketchup topped Trippin Swede, and a fried-egg/applewood/blue cheese/sriracha mayo topped beast called the One Eyed Runt, which, despite its limitations, loves them buns! There're also some non-burger sammies like a slice of meatloaf topped with handcut fries and pepperjack, the J Royale (panko-breaded tilapia with American cheese, fried pickles and creamy horseradish) and Dawgs on the Bun, which takes all the goodness of a Chicago-style dog and morphs it into a burger, like a Transformer but without the subtle directorial hand of Michael Bay.
More spoon/forkable action includes fusilli topped with four-cheese sauce and loaded beef chili, and for those looking to wash it down with a little something extra, they're BYOB, but don't grab the Two Buck Chuck, unless you're prepared to be kicked in the side by a young Jonathan Brandis.
