As the weather warms up and our summer wardrobe emerges from hibernation, we have one thing on our minds: icy, sweet-tart, boozy Margaritas. The simple mix of tequila, lime juice and sugar is so satisfying, it’s
hard impossible to have just one. Luckily, New York is home to some of the best spots to sip glass after glass of the salt-rimmed summer classic. Here, the best places to drink Margaritas in NYC.
This beloved Soho staple serves up takeout tacos by day and delicious Margaritas at their downstairs brasserie by night. Try the original on the rocks or frozen, or spring for an exotic variety made with passionfruit or blood orange. If you’re feeling adventurous, try the White Margarita, made with blanco tequila, red grapes, St-Germain, aloe liqueur, lime bitters and Cava.
Guadalupe Inn is inspired by the bohemian Guadalupe Inn neighborhood in Mexico City and 1940s-era supper clubs, and its house Margarita is simple but mighty, expertly mixed with Herradura tequila, lime, thyme-infused orange liqueur and agave. Make sure to save room for a mezcal or raicilla from their extensive spirits list.
Chef Enrique Olvera’s Cosme was named one of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants for the first time this year, and it’s more than deserving of the accolade. While the classic Margarita is top notch, we’re here for the Golden Margherita, which features blanco tequila, manzanilla sherry, pine liqueur, orange tomato water and saffron.
This East Village Mexican spot boasts an impressive cocktail list from owner and mixologist Jorge Guzman, including his expertly-made Margaritas. Opt for the classic, add mango and cucumber, or come with a group and order a pitcher of the Smoky Jalapeño Margarita. Whatever you choose, be sure to get it rimmed with their signature Black Ant salt, a nutty, buttery treat that’s made with ground-up chicatanas (flying ants) from Oaxaca.
If you crave creative Margaritas with a side of tacos that go beyond your basic al pastor, this West Village spot is a must (try the brussels sprouts tacos or the short rib pastrami). With a full section of the menu dedicated to Margaritas, there’s something for everyone, from a classic version of the cocktail, to a smoky take made with mezcal and smoked salt, to a pink grapefruit-infused variation. We’re fans of the Spicy Cucumber, which is mixed with blanco tequila, fresh cucumber, jalapeño tincture and chile salt.
This Bushwick, Brooklyn bar serves the best on-tap cocktails in the city, and their Margaritas are no exception. The classic tequila-lime-agave drink is finished with a spritz of saline in lieu of a salted rim (brilliant), and if you’re a fan of spice, the Spicy Margarita (available on the bar’s secret menu) is exactly what you need. But beware: It will make you breathe fire.
This casual neighborhood spot is one of our favorite places to spend a summer afternoon (or any afternoon, for that matter). Both of their classic Margaritas—fresh and frozen—are perfectly balanced and best enjoyed with a couple of pork belly tacos from the taco truck permanently parked on Chilo’s patio. Once you’ve gotten your Margarita fix, move on to a raicilla flight and find a new favorite agave spirit.
