While we’re all about boozing at far-flung resorts and luxurious, nature-driven hotels, our travel budget doesn’t always allow for super high-end accommodations on vacation. But no matter, some of the best party bars in the world can be found at design-savvy, wallet-friendly hostels. Whether you’re looking to meet new friends or simply enjoy a stiff cocktail, these six hostel bars are among the best in the world.

This might be the coolest bar transformation that we’ve ever seen. Housed in a former lecture hall, Nescio Auditorium Bar features tiered, classroom-style seating that overlooks the original lecture desk, which has been converted into a bar. By day, large windows flood the space with natural light, which makes it the perfect place to work or hang. By night, the lights are dimmed, and it becomes a fun place to grab drinks and meet new friends.
The Swanky Mint has a lot going for it—the Croatian hostel even has a pool where you can sip refreshing tiki drinks. But we’re here for Swanky Monkey Garden, a terrace bar where guests can enjoy live music and libations from morning until night. But don’t worry if the weather doesn’t cooperate because the indoor watering hole, which is housed in a former dry cleaning factory, is just as awesome.
This bar is our cool-kid Icelandic dream. Housed in a former biscuit factory (kex means biscuit, by the way), the bar has just the right amount of industrial details, with polished touches like a handsome, subway tile-adorned bar. DRINX specializes in local craft beer, but you can enjoy a wide selection of spirits, expertly-made cocktails and wine, too.
The owners of this Berlin hostel love beer so much, they decided to start their own micro brewing operation in The Circus’ basement. Pull up a stool and taste their signature take on a pilsner or amber ale, or join in on a drinking game and meet someone new. If you’re in the mood for a cocktail, ask for a drink mixed with their namesake Circus Gin, which was also developed specifically for the bar.
We encourage everyone visiting Miami to stop in at our favorite hostel bar on this list, Broken Shaker, even if you’re not staying at the Freehand. Removed from the fist-pumping nightlife of South Beach, Broken Shaker is a lively poolside cocktail haunt that comes alive in the evening hours. Grab one of their daily cocktails or glasses of punch for $7, or go for one of their rotating signature drinks like the Glitter Bomb—made with Bacardi Superior, aquavit, Cocchi Americano, strawberry-cardamom orgeat and fresh lemon. Still not convinced? The bar made it onto the list of The World’s 50 Best Bars this year.
This brand new hostel combines two of our favorite pastimes: drinking and swimming pools. After indulging in Splash Bar & Bite’s all-day breakfast, grab one of their cocktails by the jugful or a “hangover bucket,” which is filled with the spirit and mixers of your choice. Lounge with your libation in the neighboring pool before you’re ready for round two.
