Disney's Building Star Wars Parks; Dreams Do Come True
One of the biggest announcements at the D23 EXPO 2015 Disney fan event will bring a galaxy far, far away, straight to Disney theme parks—finally giving you a legitimate excuse to go back to the Happiest Place on Earth.
Both Disneyland in Anaheim, California and Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida are primed for a huge intergalactic expansion, promising near total immersion in the Star Wars universe. These expansions, both planned for 14 acres of intergalactic fun, will be the largest single-themed expansions at any Disney park.
Expect to see both new additions (like totally new rides) as well as major tweaks to pre-existing Star Wars attractions, like the Jedi Training Academy pictured above.
The most exciting bit of news? The biggest attraction is something you've been dreaming of since the first time you caught the Star Wars bug: guests will have a chance to take over the controls of the Millennium Falcon for a "customized secret mission." Holy. Sh*t.
Even with all the details, no firm opening date was provided beyond "coming soon." That's fine—you'll just have more time to hoard vacation days until the parks open, and your nerdiest dreams come to fruition.
