How to Turn Jumanji into a Drinking Game

Mark Yocca / Supercall

It’s been 22 years since Jumanji opened in theaters, and we’ve been patiently awaiting the next film in the series ever since. Now that Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is hitting theaters, it’s time to celebrate by playing the O.G. life-or-death board game until we’ve had enough of stampedes and quicksand and other jungle dangers. But to make things more exciting—and to give adults a reason to dust off this classic—we decided to turn Jumanji into a drinking game.

If you’re not familiar with the board game, these rules might not make sense right away. But if you refresh your memory by reading the directions, you’ll realize it’s quite easy to get tipsy if you play with our boozy amendments. Whip up a big batch of Jungle Juice or the libation of your choice, and get to sipping with Jumanji, the Drinking Game.

Take a sip if:

  • Someone complains you took the pawn color they wanted
  • No one rolls the secret symbol against a Danger Card before the hourglass runs out
  • You roll the hourglass symbol
  • You have to move back a space after landing on 5 or 8
  • You get blocked by the rhino
  • Someone comments that the rhino figurine is cute
  • You roll a racquet and you’re really good at squash

Take two sips if:

  • A Danger Card mentions an animal
  • Someone complains that the game is taking too long
  • You fail to roll the needed symbol on a Danger Card after landing on a Jungle Space
  • Someone makes the rhino figurine talk
  • Someone complains the directions are too complicated

Take a shot if:

  • Someone says they can’t read the Danger Cards like they used to because they’re getting old

Finish your drink if:

  • Someone wins that isn’t you

Finish the bottle if:

  • The Doomsday Grid is full and you all lose
  • You give up and don’t finish the game
