Are You A Pretentious Film Snob? This Site Will Tell You.
Do you consider your taste in movies diverse and refined? Did you make all of your friends see Juno in theaters? Do you think James Franco is a true auteur? Guess what: you might be a pretentious d*ck. At the same time, it's hard to know for sure without eavesdropping on all the friends who are totally talking about you behind your back. Luckily, there's an easy way to gauge your tastes and find out if you are, in fact, an assh*le when it comes to movies.
Pretentious-O-Meter is a site that measures a film's level of snobbiness by calculating the difference between critical reviews and public opinion for films on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb.
Designed by Manchester-based computer nerd, Niall Beard, Pretentious-O-Meter measures how "pretentious" a movie is by comparing its critical opinion with the audience reception. Movies with a high critical opinion versus a low audience standpoint are deemed "pretentious as hell."
Movies that skew in the other direction are the ones you can freely talk about without a sea of guffaws and eye rolls.
FYI: Lost In Translation has a 93% pretentious rate—so, just keep that in mind for the next movie night.
