What to Drink With What’s New on Netflix This November

When it comes to new Netflix titles to add to your watchlist, the pickings are a little slim this November. We can only assume that the list is is so sparse because Netflix understands that really, the only thing we’ll want to watch (over and over and over) is the Gilmore Girls revival series. But if you find the time to fit in a few other films from the digital streaming library, there are some hidden gems. Here are all of the highlights of what’s new to Netflix this month, and our recommendations for what to drink with them during your post-Thanksgiving couch residency.

Netflix

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

The long-awaited, massively-hyped revival of the beloved series hits Netflix this month and we’re more than a little excited for it. So what will we be drinking to keep us awake through our immediate binge and subsequent viewings? COFFEE COFFEE COFFEE. And no, Lorelai does not mean three coffees—but she probably wouldn’t object. Though Luke would only approve of black coffee, we won’t tell if you make a spikedlatté, a scotch-coffee mix or an icy cold brew cocktail. Or, if you’ll be attending Friday Night Dinner instead, opt for a classic Gibson Martini—the Gilmore cocktail of choice.

IFC Films/Universal Pictures

Boyhood (2014)

If you haven’t spent the last 20 years of your life slowly accumulating ingredients that were trending during each year to create the ultimate throwback cocktail, settle for a flight of spirits ranging in age, such as blanco to extra añejo tequilas, while you ponder the innocence of youth and the wisdom of age.

Netflix

The Crown (Season 1)

This Netflix original biopic series chronicles the early life of Elizabeth II as a young ruler. Drink something opulent and royal, like a caviar-garnished cocktail, or stick to the queen’s rumored favorite cocktail: A glass of gin mixed with the fortified wine Dubonnet, garnished with a slice of lemon.

Horizon Pictures

The African Queen (1951)

Be sure to drink as much gin as you can while watching this romantic drama, starring Katharine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart, before anyone can dump it into the river while you sadly watch and reconsider your life choices.

Universal Pictures

The Jetsons: The Movie (1990)

It doesn’t matter what you drink while watching The Jetsons, as long as you drink it from this levitating glass, because the future is now

Viva Films

Dough (2015)

This dramedy tells the story of a struggling baker who suddenly finds unexpected success after he accidentally drops some weed into a batch of dough and it sells like hot cakes. Try dropping some cannabis into your own cocktails with a cannabis tincture, or try weed-infused beer.

DreamWorks

All Hail King Julien (Season 4)

Did you know that lemurs are one of the only other mammals besides humans who drink alcohol for pleasure? That must be why they love to move it, move it so much. Try something tropical and tiki, like a Pearl Diver, ideally made with a Madagascar vanilla syrup.

Sour Grapes (2016)

This documentary tells the story of a young wine savant who cons wine enthusiasts out of millions of dollars, in one of the greatest cases of wine fraud the world has ever seen. Watch while drinking your way through your wine collection, trying not to get too paranoid about whether you’re actually sipping a fake Bordeaux.

Walt Disney Pictures

The Jungle Book (2016)

The visuals of this live-action take on the animated classic are mind-blowing, and after a few Jungle Birds, Cobra’s Fangs, and Tiger Styles, we can only imagine you’ll be even more swept up in the magic of talking animals.
