Cozy up with a whiskey by the fire
You can drink any booze at any time of year. We're not about to outlaw rum or mezcal or gin in the snowy months just because they're great summer sippers. But at least once, you should take full advantage of that warm fireplace by pairing it with the appropriate glass of whiskey. A dram of something as peaty as the smoky embers with a crackling light show, a comfy throw, maybe a few friends (but maybe not), and you've got our happy place right there.
There's plenty of time to diet later—that's what that desperate week right before beach season is for. Winter calls for thick, buttery, comforting jugs of Eggnog, and it’s just so much better if you make it yourself. Whether you prefer an old Colonial recipe like grampy George Washington used to make, or a worldly sibling cocktail like a Bombardino or Cola de Mono, or even some gulpable Eggnog Jello Shots, make your chosen Nog now and let future you deal with the diet.
Throw a very merry holiday party
Speaking of Eggnog, if the holidays pass and you didn’t drink the eggy concoction from a moose mug or other festive drinkware while wearing an ugly sweater and belting out carols, did you even celebrate the holidays at all? Well, yes—but you could have done it better. If you get invited to a holiday shindig way across town in a snowstorm, it is imperative that you rally the courage to face the storm and get yourself to that ho ho hoedown (just be sure to bring the right host gift bottle). On the other hand, if all your friends fail to step up, host the yuletide festivities yourself, gathering all the right people in your twinkle light-strewn pad.
