Green Line Barhop
Just in time for the State Fair, the DART Green Line's opened up five shiny new stations, including Victory, Deep Ellum, Fair Park, and beyond. Here are some stop-offs to get your drink on before the Midway sucks you drier than a Brit-com about geriatric actuaries:Victory:The Boardroom (2990 Olive): Despite the ultra-lounge trappings, Board's specials're stout, with half-price pitchers all week 'til 7p, $2 tequila/25-cent wings on Wednesdays, and "Beat the Clock" light beer on Thursdays: 50 cents at 7p, $1 at 7:30, and so on, until you're actually beating the clock, because it looked at your girlfriend.West End:West End Pub (1801 N Lamar, Suite 100); Dick's Last Resort (2211 N Lamar): The relocated Pub does a free Mon-Fri 4-7p buffet, plus slashes half off select mixed drinks on Tuesdays and serves $3 Amber Bocks/mojitos on Wednesdays. Meanwhile, Dick's offers a slew of weekday 4-7p deals ($2.50 domestic pints, $3.75 wine, $3.50 margs, $3 wells, half-off apps); flash your DART Pass/mention Thrillist, and they'll knock 15% off your food bill anytime throughout the Fair, provided you don't pull the red-in-Crips-country move of wearing a Big Johnson T-shirt.Akard Street/St. Paul Street:City Tavern (1402 Main St); Swirll Wine Bar (1311 Main St): Through Sunday, flash Pass and drop Thrillist at the saloon-y Tavern for $2 wells or a $4 PBR/Jack "Dirty Dusty" combo; hit Swirll on Tuesdays for $4 house wine, or Mon-Fri 'til 7p for $2 off any glass, a deal that'll cause you to slur the end of words too.Pearl Street:Draft Media Sports Lounge (In the Sheraton Dallas Hotel, 400 N Olive): Through the Fair's run, whip out some Pass and say "Thrillist" to receive any drink for half price at the Sheraton's brand-new multi-mil sports bar/resto, tricked out with a 103-inch plasma, free Wii & pool, and, for those more interested in DeBarge than DeMarcus, private karaoke rooms.Deep Ellum:Trees (2709 Elm); Lizard Lounge (2424 Swiss): Hit the Lizard Saturday before 10p and get free cover for their "Invasion of the Naughty School Girls" bash; on Sundays, stroll to just-resurrected Trees for $3.50 pitchers/$3 you-call-its, plus awesome-haired tribute act Metäl Shöp, self-described masters of "umlaut and pout".Baylor University Medical Center:Elbow Room (3010 Gaston); Reno's Chop Shop Saloon (210 N Crowdus): Hit cozy dive Elbow for great pizza & jukebox tunes and an off-Ellum mix of hipsters, doctors, and nurses; amble over to Reno's to catch rear-garage-bay gigs by bands like Holy Hell Rod, Sever Display, and the Valentine Failures -- the only heavy band ever formed after making Feb. 14 reservations at Olive Garden.Fair Park:Amsterdam Bar (831 S Exposition): Through the Fair's opening weekend, mention Thrillist/flash your pass for $3 wells & drafts (including Texans Franconia, Real Ale, St. Arnold's, & Live Oak) at the vaunted beer shrine that proved Amsterdam's about more than just...Vincent Van Gogh!
