Certain places require something special to gain entrance, like Willy Wonka's mind-blowing chocolate factory, for which you need to know the password: New England Clam Chowder. Wait, that's not right. Whatever, now there's a party running the same deal: Monopoly Mondays.
From the minds of a NY menswear designer, a club doorman sick of dudes looking like they came from the gym, and a couple boozemaster generals, MM's a bi-weekly open bar bash in Duncan Quinn's menswear shop: to get in, guys must wear a blazer, women a dress, and everyone's gotta bring a secret item that changes every party (this week: a mustache, whether it be real or drawn/pasted on) plus a metal Monopoly game piece, though if you plan on drinking, leave the race car at home. Once inside, you can mingle among Duncan's duds, a vintage Maserati, and an antique bar, bob to "downtown London" sounds spun buy DJs Johnny Stroke and Al B. Rotten, and play croquet on a patch of artificial turf that's essentially a broad rug -- a novel sight, thanks to string bikinis. You'll also get to raid a 4-hr open bar serving Gran Sierpe pisco cocktails dreamt up by Elad and Gabe of Bar Lab, like this week's Pisco Punch (lulo juice/cardamom syrup/Chartreuse liqueur/house-made bitters/cardamom) and Ging Ging Pisco, with fresh Florida mandarins, pressed lime, and ginger-infused pisco, garnished with ginger candy -- also Richie Cunningham's drag name in the lost Happy Days episodes.
Of course, there're also Duncan's clothes to try on/buy; he's known for fitted custom suits and shirts, but also has ready-to-wear stuff in house, a collection of colorful ties boasting deadly vices like skulls smoking ciggies, and whimsical tees including one with a chimp posed like Rodin's The Thinker, who can only be pondering one thing: is it the red or the white?
