According to historians, Benjamin Franklin never actually said, "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." What he actually said was, "Beer that's available in 32 and 64oz take-home jugs is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." Now getting all up in God's love: Growler Room, a Burnet Rd sud shop filling take-home beer jugs (including one that's shaped like a boot!) with rare, seasonal, and local brews not available in bottles or cans.
There're 20 taps, all of which're constantly changing, but standouts include Real Ale's 4-Squared (super-hopped Fireman's #4), the Thrillist editor-approved Live Oak Hefe, and a wildflower honey'd Independence Bombus Belgian Single from their Brewluminati collection.
Prices vary (see: 4-time NBA All-Star Mark, 0-time NBA All-Star Brent), but there are some downright steals, like $6 for 64oz of Thirsty Planet Dillo Wheat or Real Ale's Devil's Backbone.
The owner is also the founder of Steins.com (the industry liter in online glassware) and is hawking an insane collection of specialty drinking containers.
Also cool: they'll do custom engravings on your growler, provided -- of course -- you have the appropriate number of Benjamins.
