This Spicy Margarita has Jalapeño, Sriracha, Actual Fire
You might think of the Margarita as a warm-weather cocktail, and it certainly is that. But National Margarita Day is on February 22nd, smack dab in the middle of winter, and if you add enough spice to the classic, you can transform it into a drink that will definitely warm your cockles on a frigid February night. We did that with this beauty, whipped up in the Supercall test-bar one frosty eve not too long ago. It’s got jalapeño, Sriracha, and, um ... fire.
And it’s easy to make at home—take a look:
- 2 oz jalapeño-infused tequila
- 1 oz fresh lime juice
- .5 oz agave syrup [2:1 agave:water]
- 4 tbsp sea salt
- 1 tbsp Sriracha
- Barspoon of 151 rum
- Rim a Rocks glass with a lime wedge and roll it in the Sriracha salt.
- Slice and de-seed half a jalapeño, then muddle with agave syrup in a shaker tin.
- Add jalapeño-infused tequila, lime juice and ice, and shake to combine and chill.
- Strain over fresh ice into your rimmed Rocks glass.
- Float half a hollowed out jalapeño on top of the drink, fill with 151 and light.
- Be sure to wait for the flame to go out before drinking!
