Shift Gears with a 50/50 Martini
If you’re in the mood for a Martini, but don’t want all the ABV that comes with the classic, why not downshift into a 50/50 Martini. Instead of being a potent gin-delivery system like the original, the 50/50 drops the amount of gin and makes it up with dry vermouth. The result is equal parts gin and dry vermouth (hence the title). There’s also a little orange bitters in the mix, and the drink overall is a zesty, herbal sipper, perfect for a low-key summer evening. Just make sure you use a high-quality dry vermouth—you’re gonna taste it.
Here’s the complete recipe:
Ingredients |
- 1.5 oz gin
- 1.5 oz dry vermouth
- 2 dashes orange bitters
- Lemon peel, for garnish
Method |
- Add gin, vermouth and bitters to a mixing glass with ice.
- Stir to combine and chill.
- Strain into a chilled Coupe glass and express the lemon peel over the cocktail before dropping it in.
