A haunted neighborhood bar with a tamale happy hour

Interior at 1642

This somewhat-hidden bar satisfies all the requirements for the perfect neighborhood hangout: it’s cozy, it’s friendly, it’s got simple-yet-superb drink offerings and copious amounts of free peanuts & pretzels that haven’t been sitting around since the bar’s namesake year. On most nights, you’ll find a group of regulars enjoying California micro-brews, and, at least once a week, live music. And then, the coup de gras: a Thursday happy hour that features FREE TAMALES, which will certainly help you recoup any gras you might have lost jamming to that live music. The only downside: the owner purports that the bar’s haunted, so be wary of those dark corners...
