Facebook will let you gift your friends Bud for their birthdays, or just for fun

Let's face it: your standard Facebook birthday message of "happy bird-day" is getting a little stale, and now that Facebook gifts are done, you can't even post free Starbucks lattes, either. But if you're in Chicago or Denver, you can gift something better: beer!

Anheuser-Busch is testing a new program in those two cities that lets you send Bud Light and Budweiser to your Facebook friends. Whether you opt into "Bud Light Birthday" or the anytime-goes "Buds for Buds" deal, your friend will receive a voucher that can be redeemed in-person at a local bar or restaurant. They just need to show an ID proving they're legal to drink, and the Facebook-sanctioned brew is theirs.

Best of all, you don't even need to download an extra app -- simply look out for the Bud prompt in your News Feed. You won't see it if you're outside Chicago or Denver, but once Budweiser has finished this trial run, they're taking the service nationwide. While you wait, it's time to decide which of your friends are worthy of a birthday beer and which are just getting a photo of Grumpy Cat wearing a party hat.
