Alcoholic Soda's About to Become a Sweet, Boozy Reality

Given the popularity of "hard" lemonades, iced teas, and root beers, it was only a matter of time before someone went and created a liquored-up version of plain-old soda. As it turns out, that time is nearly upon us, and that someone is MillerCoors.

According to recent reports, the brewing company behind Blue Moon and Killian's Irish Red will be expanding into the "hard" soft drink game, launching Henry's Hard Soda nationwide in January. The first options available will be orange soda and ginger ale, both of which are sweetened by pure cane sugar and feature an ABV of 4.2% -- not exactly hard, but that kinda comes with the territory.

Although only ginger ale and orange soda will be available at launch, additional flavors will inevitably follow if the brand takes off like MillerCoors is hoping. Of course, there's always the possibility that once the novelty wears off, Henry's Hard Soda will go the way of Smirnoff Ice, relegated exclusively to the netherworld of prank-based drinking games.
