Danny Bowien, the mastermind behind Mission Chinese Food, has lots to brag about, including two stupidly popular restaurants, award-winning meats, and an impressive collection of beanies. Now, he has something new to boast: His own beer with a fire-breathing Danny dragon right on the label.
Danish brewer Mikkeller -- whose only U.S. outpost is in the Golden Gate City -- befriended the Mission crew after tossing back several brews and plates of Kung Pao Pastrami. A beer collaboration was discussed, but nothing happened... until six months later (i.e. now), when the Copenhagen brewery debuted its Mission Chinese Food beer on Instagram, a German-style pilsner made with Sichuan peppercorns that packs a hint of smokiness.
Only two batches exist now, but Mikkeller promised the city would be flooded with the stuff when SF Beer Week kicks into gear on February 7th. And, of course, you'll be able to find the stuff at either Mikkeller or Mission Chinese Food, where you can score a pint with your General Tso's Veal and a side of beanies.
